What the balance sheet upload does

Upload a monthly balance sheet as an Excel or CSV file, and Founderpath reads your month-end cash, receivables, payables, assets, liabilities and equity for underwriting. It is the way to share your balance sheet when your books are not in an accounting system Founderpath connects to, such as QuickBooks Online or Xero.

What the spreadsheet needs

Download the template from the upload screen in your Founderpath account, or export a monthly report from your accounting system:

  • At least 12 months of history. 24 is better, and a month with no numbers does not count.
  • One column per month of month-end balances, not a quarterly or annual snapshot.
  • Assets, liabilities and equity as separate sections, with their line items, not just totals.

A shortened layout example, with most line items left out:

What happens after you upload

  1. Founderpath reads the sheet and checks that it has the months and sections above. Most files are read in about 3 minutes.
  2. Each line is mapped to a balance sheet category, and monthly totals are recorded: cash, accounts receivable, accounts payable, current, fixed and intangible assets, short and long-term liabilities, and equity.
  3. Those figures join the rest of your data for underwriting. Founderpath aims to make a funding offer within 24-48 hours of your data being connected.

The upload records balances, not invoice-level detail, so receivables and payables appear as monthly totals rather than by age. An upload is a snapshot: upload a new file when your books change.

Pair it with a profit and loss statement

A balance sheet shows position, not performance. Upload a profit and loss statement for the same months, and add bank data so cash can be checked against the books.

Questions

Balance sheet upload questions

At least 12 months of month-end balances, with 24 preferred, in one column per month. Assets, liabilities and equity need to be separate sections with their line items, not just totals. A template is available on the upload screen.
Monthly totals for cash, accounts receivable, accounts payable, current, fixed and intangible assets, short and long-term liabilities, and equity.
No. A balance sheet carries balances, so receivables and payables are recorded as monthly totals, not by how long they have been outstanding.
Most balance sheet files are read in about 3 minutes.
If your books are in QuickBooks Online or Xero, connect them: the data refreshes on its own and includes your profit and loss statement. Upload a balance sheet when you use other accounting software or keep your statements in spreadsheets.
